VARIGNANO PARISH CHURCH AND COMPLEX
Invited competition, shortlisted entry
Promoter body: Archdiocese of Lucca, Italian Episcopal Conference
Location: Viareggio, Italy
Year: 2014-2015
Consultants: Gabriella Goffi, Father Daniele Piazzi
Design level: preliminary design
The key-concept of this project, that of an “open village”, relies on the creation of an articulated and coherent ensemble of spaces and functions, capable to adapt to the local community’s needs.
The buildings which forms this “open village” are interconnected to one another, and at the same time open to the city. The parish church forms the pivoting point around which all functions articulate, and creates a landmark visible from the distance, to mark up the role of the site as a reference point in the Varignano neighborhood.
