An abandoned stone building, unused for many years and located along the defensive walls of a village in the Lunigiana region, has been the subject of a restoration and conservation project aimed at transforming the property into a dwelling and a violin‑making workshop.

Dating back to the 17th century, the single-detached building has a total floor area of 600 square metres and an adjoining plot of approximately 800 square metres. Its structure consists of load‑bearing walls in roughly hewn stone and is composed of two juxtaposed volumes: the main one, which follows the alignment of the street, rises partly over two and partly over three levels; the other portion, smaller and older, is arranged over two floors and is distinguished by a large vaulted room on the ground level.

The project involved securing the entire building; in particular, all floor structures and the roof were reconstructed, while the structural reinforcement works required by seismic regulations were carried out simultaneously. For the restoration of the building’s character‑defining elements and the finishing of the façades, the guidelines set out in the conservation plan were followed.
